Hiking with the Cultural Association of Ai Yiannis Heraklion in Mitata of Psiloritis Sunday, November 27, 2016
The hike includes a one-hour ascent to Axikos aori, a guided tour from Despina Mathioudakis in the mitato of Pataxides and in the hole of the cheese of Panousis, shepherd of Psiloritis. This will be followed by cheese-making by Panousis at the agro-tourism "Enagron" in Axos Mylopotamos.
Mitata-buildings are the result of an ancient construction tradition. It comes from the Latin word metatum which means military accommodation.

Route:
Heraklion bus – 1 km before Zoniana
Ascent to Axikos aori about 1 hour
Guided tour of Pataxidon tomato
Visit to the cheese house of Panousis 1 hour
Return – descent from the mountain 1 hour
In case the weather conditions do not allow it, the excursion will be postponed.
