Let the children enjoy their childhood.

Let the children enjoy their childhood.

There is nothing worse than the conflicting forces of a strict and aggressive trainer clashing with a defenseless baby who is distressed and unable to deal with the onslaught against him. "Do no harm."

In the 21st century, parents must realize that subjugating, pressuring or mentally traumatizing their child in order to learn to swim, is an archaic, stressful and completely unnecessary situation. This reactive method, fueled by fear, is summed up in the phrase "today's solution is tomorrow's problem". It's the logic of "It's over, I don't care how you do it." By forcing and harsh discipline and unquestioning manipulation on infants and toddlers, it shows a great lack of knowledge, experience and understanding of teaching and care. Educators and parents must be in touch with the child's feelings and perception as the immediate and long-term consequences of their actions can affect the child for a lifetime, both emotionally and spiritually. Effective and ethical can be two entirely different things. Making baby swimming (floating on their back) a forced priority on unwilling infants, toddlers or children of any age can have a devastating effect on the well-being of the child and society. The same applies to the forced dives that guarantee that the child will learn to swim or will not run the risk of drowning within certain time periods. Let it be known that crying, being sad or feeling weak are not prerequisites for someone to learn to swim. They must treat these young souls with respect and not abuse them. Wise parents know there are better options. "Teach me, don't hurt me." Learning should be based on excitement and love, not fear. As parents and educators, our goal should be to cultivate the kindness that will produce wonderfully beautiful and protective individuals.

Children should enjoy their experience in the water from day one, providing them with a rich supportive environment that will help them become healthy and happy people as well as skilled swimmers. Parents (and trainers) should be relaxed and in tune with the child creating a positive, energetic and happy atmosphere. It is important that they enjoy the lesson themselves. Children need to be comfortable and sure above the water before they even start swimming with their heads in it. Applaud every small step throughout the process. Create an environment that brings out hidden treasures by producing a lifelong love and respect for water as well as a lifelong thirst for learning and exploration. Everything acts as a catalyst for the child to activate his full potential.

The first three years are the most sensitive in a child's life. What happens during this critical and formative period has a dramatic effect on the child for the rest of his life. Swimming is therefore the first organized activity in his life journey. As privileged companions, parents and instructors must create an encouraging and joyful experience for these budding swimmers. It is our hope that these children will become well-rounded and loving adults, leading productive lives and contributing their best to society and our planet.
