The village of Agistro is built on the Greek-Bulgarian border, east of the Strymonas valley. It is an extraordinary landscape, peaceful, with rich vegetation and ideal climatic conditions. During the reign of Philip II of Macedonia (4th century BC), iron and gold mines operated on Mount Agistro, which financed, together with Pangaeo, the pan-Hellenic expedition against the Persians in Alexander the Great's campaign in Asia. The hot springs of Agistros ensured a continuous human presence throughout the centuries.
