According to the American Society for Nutrition in Baltimore, insufficient consumption of fruits and vegetables is associated with a large proportion of deaths from stroke or heart attack.

Study results show that insufficient fruit intake is responsible for nearly 1.8 million cardiovascular deaths per year, while a corresponding deficiency in vegetable consumption is associated with one million deaths, or nearly half.

They reduce blood pressure and cholesterol

Fruits and vegetables are good sources of fiber, potassium, magnesium and antioxidants that have been shown to lower blood pressure and cholesterol.

At the same time, those who eat large amounts of fruits and vegetables are less likely to be overweight or obese, thus reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease.

The perfect amount

The research that has been carried out to date, converges on the fact that the ideal fruit intake is 300 grams per day, while for vegetables it reaches close to 400 grams.

The researchers, as reported by the APE, analyzed fruit and vegetable intake data from 113 countries (82% of the world's population) and linked it to cardiovascular disease deaths due to insufficient fruit and vegetable intake.

The results showed that insufficient fruit consumption results in nearly 1.3 million deaths from stroke and more than 520,000 deaths from coronary heart disease worldwide each year.

Accordingly, suboptimal vegetable consumption was estimated to result in approximately 200,000 deaths from stroke annually and more than 800,000 deaths from coronary heart disease.
