With the technique of kinesiology taping we apply special elastic bands to the skin to help treat many musculoskeletal conditions and sports injuries.
Depending on the part of the body and the technique applied, kinesiology taping:
- reduces inflammation and pain,
- prevents the creation of muscle spasms and contributes to muscle relaxation,
- stabilizes the joints and protects the ligaments and tendons around the joint,
- enhances lymph flow and stimulates blood circulation,
- the rehabilitation and reintegration of patients into sporting activities is accelerated.
This technique became very popular when it was introduced to professional athletes at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, as well as in all major sporting events since then.
The effectiveness of the technique is due to the fact that:
- increases the flow of lymph in the body enhancing tissue healing,
- reduces the burden received by the injured tissues,
- facilitates movement and muscle activation,
- does not limit activity like a splint or conventional bandaging techniques,
- the tape can be applied for several days, is waterproof and does not cause irritation.
A qualified therapist applies the tape in the right way depending on the location, nature and severity of the injury, in order to have the best possible result.
What is included in a Kinesiotaping session?
At the beginning, a physical therapy evaluation is done. The technique is applied on the affected area or at a distance from it, depending on the desired result. It can be applied after a muscle-relaxing massage or lymphatic drainage or as part of a physical therapy session.
The tape is waterproof and usually stays on the skin for 5 or 6 days and the technique can be reapplied after a week.
Depending on the nature of the problem, the therapist can teach the application technique for the specific point so that the client can apply it alone.
