The recommendations of the World Health Organization

The World Health Organization (WHO) and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommend 150 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity or 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity physical activity on a weekly basis, although in recent years they have tended to even double that amount of time. we should exercise to maximize the health benefits.

This translates into about half an hour every day for five times a week, while if we choose the new recommendations, then the time can be doubled.

What research showed in elderly people

The steps we take every day are obviously related to the health problems we face but also to our physical condition.

Researchers from Harvard University Medical School and Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston conducted an interesting study following 16,741 women with an average age of 72 years.

The women wore a pedometer for a week and were then monitored by doctors for over four years.

The findings

According to the results of the research, it appeared that those who took the fewest steps daily with an average of close to 2,500 faced the greatest risk of death.

Conversely, those who took close to 4,500 steps daily, the risk of premature death was reduced by approximately 40% while the benefits were maximized for those who managed to take close to 7,500 steps.
