By practicing postures, breathing exercises and self-focus you become healthier in body, mind and spirit.
Yoga is a method of upright posture and breathing exercise, which improves physical condition, mental balance and spiritual development. Through aligned conscious postures (Asanas), the body becomes stronger, while at the same time improving endurance and flexibility. The conscientious dynamic stay in the asanas helps the upright posture, the ability to concentrate and provides deep relaxation. Through calm and controlled breathing (Pranayama), the practitioner achieves mental calmness, self-control and self-concentration. Regulating the cycle of breathing, clears the material body of blockages and achieves the development of positive thinking, visualization and union at all levels of existence (physical – energetic/mental/mental – spiritual). The practitioner of yoga improves his self-confidence and activates internal forces, energy channels that respond to nerve clusters in the spine.
The word "yoga" is Sanskrit and literally means union, while metaphorically it denotes the coupling of opposite forces, the union of the higher with the lower, the inner with the outer, the connection and harmony of the levels of existence.
Pilates aims to properly strengthen the body without straining and burdening our body. The basic principle of the method is the control and stabilization of the body through its center, low in the abdomen. The powerhouse, power center, as named by J Pilates is the basic principle to stabilize the trunk to bring the body back to a neutral position with a correct center of gravity and a balanced muscular system, even in the most demanding exercises. It is based on how movement is organized by the nervous system and (re)trains the body to work using the correct muscles at the start of a movement, avoiding everyday injuries. It improves the quality and awareness of the body's posture and movement, whatever its daily routine and habits.
Each movement is done with awareness and in combination with proper breathing, where enough emphasis is placed on its quality, in order to improve the general physical condition. In most positions, the whole body is involved, learning to carefully stabilize the joints and precisely control the distribution of muscle power. With a strong core we can effectively perform exercises from the basic to the most advanced level. The result of these principles is a very safe and functional training that brings harmony and balance to the musculoskeletal and nervous system, with the aim of their best possible cooperation.
Joseph Pilates viewed his method, which he originally named Contrology, as a way of life and a path to universal health rather than just a series of exercises. Pilates equipment is designed to exercise the entire body using positions and movements that improve alignment and balance of the body. They force the practitioner to work with their own weight by constantly activating the stabilization muscles, since they often act as a means of destabilization. In the philosophy of their construction is the gradual resistance created by the springs, with the aim of strengthening many different muscle groups, working mainly in a closed chain based on the correct alignment. His main machines are the Reformer, wunda chair, cadillac and the ladder barrel.
It is worth noting that although at the beginning the practice has a slow pace, after some lessons and depending on the student's level, the practice becomes quite advanced and demanding. Let's not forget that initially he worked with professional dancers and acrobats with the aim of their maximum performance, in addition to rehabilitating injuries.
