Our History: 1929
A British scientist named Mr. Murphy, of the Dunlop Rubber Company, succeeded for the first time in creating foam from
natural Latex, drastically improving the sleep quality and daily life of millions of people. The Dunlopillo brand was registered in 1926, three years before Dunlopillo perfected the original process for making Latex foam.
In order for us today to enjoy the comfort offered by sleeping products made of natural Latex, the British scientist spent time and effort even resorting to "unorthodox" methods and techniques. Specifically, he used a cake mixer in his attempt to make Latex foam. Five years of intensive research finally led, almost by accident, to the discovery of the process for processing Latex.
To this day the machines used in Dunlopillo's factories look like oversized cake mixers. Latex Dunlopillo foam replaced hard wooden seats in public transport, in trams, trains and trolleys. Soon the foam was also introduced into the aviation industry for the upholstery of airplane seats and cockpits.

The first latex mattresses were manufactured and widely marketed thanks to their innovative properties. The fact that for the first time a mattress did not require "shaking" or "turning" was Dunlopillo's competitive advantage.
During World War II, the growth rates of the furniture industry slowed significantly. Latex mattresses were only available by prescription. Along the way, the supply of Latex was cut off due to the Japanese Occupation of Malaysia. It took several years before the furniture industry finally returned to pre-war levels.
1955
Latex foam gained international fame when it was used for the seat of Donald Campbell who managed to break the Bluebird boat, the speed record of the time. In the 1950s, the renovated English Parliament was equipped exclusively with Talalay seats.
1960
Leon Talalay patented the natural latex processing process in Great Britain. Five years later, Talalay production began at the Dunlopillo factory in Northern Britain.
