Location
The Karpenisi its capital prefecture of Evrytania, is built on the southern slopes of Velouhi at an altitude of 1000m in a verdant area of firs, pines and chestnuts. It got its name from the Kutsovlach word "carpinisi", which means a place with many false sycamores, but also from the Turkish words "kar", which means snow and "benis" which means investor i.e. "snow covered".
Karpenisi includes the municipal apartments of Karpenisi, Gorgianades settlement, Agios Nikolaos, Butyros, Myriki, Koryschades, Fidakia, Agios Andreas, Agia Blacherna, Kalesmeno, Paparousi, Pavlopoulos, Sella (Milia), Stefani and Stenoma.
The Karpenisiotis river originates from the ridge of Mount Tymphristos, crosses the valley of Potamia, passes between the Kaliakuda and Helidona mountains, creates the popular "Kleidi", to join the Dipotamas of Proussos and Krikelliotis and end up together in the lake of Kremastos . b). Winter Skiing
The ski center in Velouhi (7 km, or 10' by car from Hotel Spa Montana) is considered one of the most beautiful and modern centers of Greece.
With 10 slopes of different degrees of difficulty - from very easy (green), to difficult (black)-, 6 sliding lifts and a baby lift, chalet, shelter, first aid station and restaurant - bar, it gives every visitor the opportunity to fully enjoy skiing and any other winter sport.
In the same area you will also find an accredited ski school for beginners and children.

The prefecture of Evrytania is a magical place, one of the most beautiful regions of Greece. Green winter-summer, full of verdant valleys, gorges and natural waterfalls (such as the world-famous Pantavrechei waterfall), with imposing caves decorated with stalactites and stalagmites. It has a particularly rich fauna such as wild boars, wolves, bears, deer, many species of predators, but also wild trout in Lake Episkopi. Also here is the largest earth dam in Europe, in Lake Kremaston.
