Small Cyclades
Mikres Cyclades is the name of a simple, but made with what we call home care tavern in a quiet neighborhood of Ilioupoli. It is located far from squares and hangouts, which does not prevent it from being filled with its fanatical audience. Comfortable tables, which go outside in the summer, overlooking the park and the coolness of the pine trees. The choice of name does not try to imitate or evoke unnecessary associations. It expresses the experiences and memories of its owner, Antonis Kovaiou from Schinoussa, where he was born and opened the first restaurant in 1995. There are times when you think that the recipe for a restaurant's success seems relatively simple. Insistence on the choice of good raw material with consistency and duration without compromise with respect to the treatment of materials, which results not only from experience and knowledge, which are necessary anyway, but also from a good personal sense of balance. This is exactly the work that is done here and makes Mikres Cyclades stand out among hundreds of other fish taverns. The owner sources the best raw material – you can see it in every dish – and the chefs in the kitchen make sure to breathe life into the food. This role has been taken up by Yannis Karakatsanis and Stavros Spanelis - they are also islanders, originally from Alonissos and Lesvos respectively - and they succeed in the best way, since in the dishes you taste you can feel the care of the good chef, without noticing that they have suppressed the raw material.
