The history of hair transplantation it started several years ago in Japan, with research done by Japanese doctors. The techniques of this process, as we know it today, began to appear in 1950. In the last 38 years, they have also been applied in Greece. 

According to natural procedure hair grows in groups of hairs, called follicles. Single follicles are located above the forehead, at the front of the scalp, while clusters of 2, 3, or 4 hairs form inside the scalp.

The hair follicles located in the front and upper part of the scalp are particularly sensitive to the presence of androgens. The result of this sensitivity is that they weaken, producing weakened hairs, which in turn fall out and we have permanent hair loss.

On the contrary, those located on the back and side of the scalp show genetic resistance to androgens and thus constitute the area of constant hair growth.

The process of hair transplantation consists of taking and transplanting hair follicles from the area of constant hair growth to the area of thinning. In fact, what happens is the redistribution of existing hair growth from those parts of the scalp that are in excess to those that are lacking. Thus, the transplanted hair transfers its genetic properties to the area of thinning, which means that it grows based on the natural way, permanently and definitively giving us an excellent aesthetic result and the density we would like.  

Usually the procedure followed is as follows: 

• extraction of hair follicles
• classification according to the number of hairs they contain
• custody and protection until implantation
• selection and creation of suitable placement reception points

In recent years they have also been presented new breakthrough treatments, such as hair transplantation with stem cells, which are still in the research stage.

In order to treatment success and the fulfillment of the expected results, the application should be done by doctors with deep knowledge and skill, which means special skills in the specific field and developed aesthetic ability.  

But apart from the specialized staff there are other factors that are considered in order to achieve the most natural result. They are: 

• the appropriate angle of the hair follicles, so that their orientation is in harmony with the growth conditions of the recipient area and
• the correct distribution and arrangement of the hair follicles, in order to achieve the maximum possible density.

The time of the procedure it depends on the number of hair follicles to be transplanted and is usually between 4-7 hours. After completing the application, the interested party returns to his home. New hair does not require special care, with the sole exception of the first days after surgery. In addition, they do not stand out from the rest of the person's hair and all the hairdressing procedures that the person wishes can be done on them.
