The lack of time and the frenzies<\/a> rhythms of everyday life often lead parents to push in their own way or to show tolerance towards their children<\/a> as far as their engagement with digital devices, such as television, mobile phones or computers is concerned. This mistake becomes particularly serious when children start their engagement with digital devices such as television from a very young age, even from the first year of their life.<\/p>\n

How many hours do children spend in front of screens?<\/h2>\n

A one-year-old spends an average of almost an hour (53 minutes) in front of a television, computer or mobile phone screen, while by the age of three this time increases to around two and a half hours (150 minutes), according to a new American scientific research.<\/p>\n

Children of first-time mothers, those who do not go to daycare but stay at home under the supervision of a parent, relative or babysitter, and those whose parents have a lower educational level spend the most time in front of screens.<\/p>\n

Until the age of eight, according to APE, these children continue to spend more time in front of a screen than their peers.<\/p>\n

"Bell" from the scientists<\/h3>\n

Researchers from the US National Institutes of Health, as well as the universities of New York and Albany, who made the relevant publication in the American medical journal JAMA Pediatrics, studied nearly 4,000 children aged 12 to 36 months and later the same children when they turned seven up to eight years old.<\/p>\n

"Our findings show that habits in front of screens start very early. Therefore, interventions to reduce screen time will have a greater chance of success if they also start early," said researcher Edwina Yeung.<\/p>\n

What are the "limits"<\/h3>\n

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that children up to 18 months of age have no contact with digital devices at all, the introduction of screens should be done slowly and in moderation at the age of 18 to 24 months, while at the ages of two to five years staying in front of any screen not to exceed a total of one hour per day.<\/p>\n

But based on the new research, almost nine out of ten children (87%) exceed this limit.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
