Energy drinks and gels<\/p>\n<p>Research has shown that a large percentage of athletes damage their <a href=\"https:\/\/spa-about.gr\/en\/ygeia\/giatre-giati-xaloun-ta-dontia-mou\/\">teeth<\/a> because he often consumes energy drinks and gels as well as energy bars, products which in many cases contain sugar.<\/p>\n<h2>Energy drinks and gels<\/h2>\n<p>The study published by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/international\">Guardian<\/a> performed on professional athletes participating in Olympic competitions. The research was conducted on swimming, cycling, rugby, rowing, football, etc. athletes.<\/p>\n<p>The results of the present study, published in the British Dental Journal, showed that professional athletes had worse oral health than others despite their efforts to take care of their teeth.<\/p>\n<h3>Good oral hygiene habits<\/h3>\n<p>&quot;The majority of athletes appeared to adopt good oral hygiene habits in that they brush their teeth twice a day, visit the dentist regularly, don&#039;t smoke and eat a generally balanced diet,&quot; says Dr. Julie Gallagher from the Eastman Dental Institute, University College London (UCL).<\/p>\n<p>However, what seems to be burdening the health of the teeth and gums are the energy nevers, gels and energy bars that are commonly used not only before or during matches but also during training.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately due to ignorance even many amateur athletes consume corresponding products in cases where they do not need it.<\/p>\n<h3>Sugar increases the risk of tooth decay<\/h3>\n<p>&quot;The sugar in these products increases the risk of tooth decay and their acidity increases the risk of acetic acid erosion of the teeth,&quot; states Gallagher in her attempt to explain the reasons why so many problems are observed in athletes&#039; teeth during check-ups.<\/p>\n<h3>What the data of 352 athletes showed<\/h3>\n<p>In the context of the research conducted by the University of London UCL (University College London), researchers analyzed data from 352 female and male athletes from 11 events.<\/p>\n<p>It found that 94% of the athletes brushed their teeth twice a day, compared to 75% of the general population, while 44% of them flossed frequently, compared to 21% of the general population.
